Maca

Maca is an important dietary support. Thanks to the fructose it contains, we feel invigorated and full of vitality. It is rich in carbohydrates, glucose and vitamins.

Maca is a resilient, robust plant which is cultivated in the Peruvian Andes up to an altitude of 4500m. It is short-growing and produces small, self-pollinating, whitish flowers. The part of the plant which is used commercially is the root, which reaches a size of up to 8cm. Its color varies from yellow to reddish and white. In contrast to most other tubers, maca reproduces through its seeds. This plant grows under extreme climatic conditions involving intense solar radiation, harsh winds and temperatures below freezing, along with extremely rocky soils. Nevertheless, the maca plant manages to flourish under these adverse conditions. It was domesticated by the Incas about 2000 years ago.

Use of the maca tuber among the local population:
Maca is one of the most important food plants along with rice, cereals and green vegetables. The dried roots can be stored for up to seven years.

Cat's Claw - this miraculous medicinal plant has been used since ancient times in a great variety of ways by the indigenous peoples living in the Peruvian rainforest. Its rediscovery by Austrian scientist Klaus Kepplinger in the context of his investigations in Peru initiated the plant's unprecedented triumph all over the world.

The indigenous peoples of South America have been using cat's claw for at least 2000 years. Cat's claw stimulates the immune system, increasing its activity by up to 50%, and has excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Besides, it is antibacterial, diuretic and reduces blood pressure. Cat's claw is used to treat arthritis and internal infections, to heal wounds, and it is part of the treatment of certain types of cancer (bowel and lung cancer) and HIV. The plant is a strong antioxidant which eliminates free radicals and thus counteracts cell aging and stimulates the immune system. It increases physical resilience and is anti-inflammatory. Its root is used against bacterial and viral infections, herpes, urinary tract infections, joint infections and in detoxification after antibiotic treatments.

Application:
Add enough of the cat's claw bark to a liter of cold water to make the infusion taste so bitter that it just reaches the limit of drinkability. Simmer it for 20 minutes at low heat. It is important to let it cool down before you strain it and only then drink it lukewarm or cold.

A gift to an ill tree:
The boiled cat's claw bark is still very beneficial for other plants. It can sometimes even heal severely ill trees. You can boil the bark infusion twice or three times over and drink it for prevention or use it to wash your hair or as a bath additive.

Dragon's Blood (Sangre de Grado)

Dragon's blood is a red-brown natural resin from different plants which is used as a phytopharmaceutical (herbal remedy), as a coating material and as a colorant.

Production and name:
Dragon's Blood is produced from the resin of the Peruvian Dragon's Blood tree. The resin is named for its similarity with blood in terms of color and consistency. Dragon's Blood is released from the trunk and branches of the tree when they are tapped. Dragon's Blood is harvested during the rainy season, so that enough resin can be extracted from the tree. The resin of the Dragon's Blood tree is also referred to as latex. When this latex gets in contact with air, it dries very fast, which is why it must be filled into airtight containers promptly.

Effects and usage:
Dragon's Blood is rich in tannins which accelerate wound healing. When rubbed on the skin, it produces whitish foam. When Dragon's Blood is applied to wounds and lesions, it results in very quick healing. It stops slight bleeding and protects against infections, as it forms a protective film covering the wound. Dragon's Blood is also used for vaginal douches and hip baths. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-tumoral effects and stimulates digestion. Dragon's Blood has a bitter aftertaste.

Dragon's blood can heal the following diseases / conditions:
Dysentery, anemia, stomach pains, diarrhea, upset stomach, nausea, tuberculosis, ulcers, sore throat, digestive disorders, stomach ulcers, vulvovaginitis, gastrointestinal inflammation.

It is used externally against the following superficial symptoms:
Herpes, wounds and lesions, dandruff, gingivitis, used to rinse wounds, against sore throat, breast pains, hemorrhoids, dermatitis, pigment disorders.

Application:
Dissolve 10-15 drops of Dragon's Blood in hot water or tea and drink this potion 1-3 times a day. For external use, Dragon's Blood should be spread on the affected area 2-4 times a day. When used as incense, dragon's blood is said to have a strong cleansing effect on the spirit. This is why it is frequently used at the beginning of incense rituals. In this context, dragon's blood is characterized by a comparatively neutral smell. Dragon's blood is increasingly used in horseback riding, where it is highly popular thanks to good tolerability and quick healing of wounds. Some riding shops have discovered the effects of dragon's blood and have already included it in their assortment.

Camu Camu

Camu camu is a small, orange to red fruit the size of a sweet cherry which flourishes on the exuberant rainforest soils nourished by the floods of the Amazon River.
